Founded in 2001, WRS was established by Andy Firth and Ian Altass, who brought together a group of companies from Initial Metals Engineering to provide a range of services under the WRS brand.
The first addition to WRS was Wide Range Lift Trucks (WRLT) in 2001, a partnership with three experienced engineers in forklift maintenance. WRLT now holds a variety of material handling equipment, with workshops for repairs, machine assembly, and modifications. WRS's partner companies support in adapting stock equipment to meet customer needs.
In September 2002, WRS acquired the Hull depots of Initial Metals Engineering, expanding into heavy fabrication and plant equipment refurbishment. This partnership helps modify forklifts to suit customer requirements. The acquisition of Northfield Engineering in February 2006 added capabilities for quick-turnaround parts and hydraulic cylinder repair, benefiting WRS's machinery stock.
Following this, East Coast Fluid Power was acquired in July 2006, complementing WRS's equipment repair and modification services. Both Northfield and East Coast operate under the WRS umbrella, contributing to the comprehensive suite of services.
WRS focused on consolidation over the initial seven years, completing a new machine shop and mechanical workshop in 2012. With 14,000 square feet of workshop space, two acres of yard storage, and strategic proximity to Hull docks, WRS offers a variety of handling equipment for supply, modification, service, and repair.
