WRS was founded in 2001, created by the management team of Initial Metals Engineering, Andy Firth and Ian Altass brought together a group of companies to offer a complete range of services under the WRS brand.

Wide Range Lift Trucks was the first acquisition made by WRS in 2001 than a partnership of 3 engineers with a vast experience in the forklift maintenance business. WRLT now holds a vast stock of high demand material handling equipment, with purpose built workshops to complete repairs, build and strip machines and with the support of WRS partner companies the ability to modify all aspects to meet our customer’s requirements.

WRS Purchased the Hull depots of Initial Metals Engineering in September 2002 following the divestment of all the UK sites by the owners Andrew Weir Shipping. Since then Initial metals has expanded into heavy fabrication and refurbishment plant equipment such as loader buckets, forklift masts carriages and forks, gooseneck manufacture & repair + gooseneck stand manufacture. This company partners with WRLT’s often modifying Forklifts to suit our customers needs, Shortening Mast sections, modifying carriages, forks, and forklift cabs. Danny moss from our Northfield department designs bespoke Fabrication equipment using Solid works which initial metals then produces, often handling attachments.

WRS purchased Northfield Engineering in February 2006 a locally owned and highly respected company within the industry. Northfields brought the dimension we had been looking for it allowed us to enter the local engineering market place with their diverse capabilities from parts being able to be produced in a breakdown situation to manufacturing runs through to full CNC production. WRS now builds on Northfields core business, which are hydraulic ram repairs. We pride ourselves on our turnaround time on all ram repairs from straight strip and reseal through to the manufacture of new to pattern in the support of the local engineering, plant and maintenance industries.

Following on from the purchase of Northfield Engineering in February 2006 WRS concluded the purchase of East Coast Fluid Power in July 2006. East Coast is highly respected for the service levels it gives to customers. When first acquired East Coast Fluid Power was made to cover some areas that Northfield where lacking in such as Hose repairs. East Coast specialise in every possible type of hydraulic hose for every conceivable application. Hoses can be made on site or by our fully equipped mobile Vans. Although now both companies are well established under the WRS umbrella, Northfield and East Coast and one in the same company.

WRS Incorporating all 4 companies.

The first seven years saw a consolidation of operations culminating in 2012 with the completion of the new machine shop and mechanical workshop. WRS now has 14,000 square feet of workshop including a fully equipped machine shop, hydraulic repair shop, two forklift refurbishment workshops and a fabrication & welding workshop, along with 2 acres of yard storage, allowing us to expand our equipment sales. All of this combined enables WRS to supply equipment both standard or adapted to fit any individuals specification for both trade and end users alike.
