WRS was founded in 2001, created by the management team of Initial Metals Engineering, Andy Firth and Ian Altass brought together a group of companies to offer a complete range of services under the WRS brand.
Wide Range Lift Trucks was the first acquisition made by WRS in 2001 than a partnership of 3 engineers with vast experience in the forklift maintenance business. WRLT now holds a vast stock of high-demand material handling equipment, with purpose-built workshops to complete repairs, build & strip machines along with the support of WRS partner companies providing the ability to modify all stock equipment to meet our customer’s requirements.
WRS purchased the Hull depots of Initial Metals Engineering in September 2002 following the divestment of all the UK sites by the owners Andrew Weir Shipping. Since then, Initial metals has expanded into heavy fabrication and refurbishment plant equipment such as loader buckets, forklift masts carriages and forks, gooseneck manufacture & repair + gooseneck stand manufacture. This company partners with WRLT’s often modifying Forklifts to suit our customer's needs, Shortening Mast sections, modifying carriages, forks, and forklift cabs.
WRS purchased Northfield Engineering in February 2006 a locally owned and highly respected company within the industry. Northfields brought the dimension we had been looking for it allowed us to enter the local engineering marketplace with their diverse capabilities producing quick turnaround parts during breakdown situations, to manufacturing full CNC production runs. WRS Uses Northfields core business of Hydraulic cylinder Repair, Design, and Manufacture, assisting with the Restoration and modification of our vast stock of machinery. Northfield Prides itself on its superior turnaround time on all Cylinder repairs, from the straight strip and reseal, through to the manufacture of new pattern parts in the support of the local engineering, plant, and maintenance industries.
Following on from the purchase of Northfield Engineering in February 2006 WRS concluded the purchase of East Coast Fluid Power in July 2006 to provide another essential aspect of its equipment repair and modification service. East Coast is highly respected for the service levels it gives to customers. When first acquired East Coast Fluid Power was made to cover some areas that Northfield were lacking in such as Hose repairs. East Coast specializes in every possible type of hydraulic hose for every conceivable application. Hoses can be made on-site or by our fully equipped mobile Vans. Although now both companies are well established under the WRS umbrella, Northfield and East Coast are one in the same company.
